Hwy. 11 Reopened
DISTRICT (Staff) – Highway 11 south of New Liskeard is now reopened to traffic following an early morning (Thursday, September 11) crash which claimed the life of a North Cobalt man.
The Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police said Highway 11 was now open at 2:30 pm.
The highway had been closed since approximately 5 a.m. and traffic was rerouted through New Liskeard.
North Cobalt man dies on Hwy.11 crash
DISTRICT (Staff) – The Temiskaming detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP report that a 58-year-old North Cobalt man was killed today, September 11, when the Honda Civic he was driving collided head-on with a tractor trailer on Highway 11 south of New Liskeard at Seeds Road.
Police say Andre Lamothe was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the driver of the tractor trailer, Eugeniusz Wietczak, 59, of Mississauga was transported by ambulance to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say there were no passengers in either vehicle.
Police say the crash occurred “shortly after 5 a.m.”.
The tractor trailer was reported southbound and the Honda Civic was reported to be northbound.
The Haileybury Fire Department were at the scene. The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are assisting with this ongoing investigation.
Highway 11 has been closed in both directions as the investigation continues. Police could not say when the highway will be reopended.
A detour is available at West Road through Temiskaming Shores to Highway 65 East.

Hwy.11 closed due to accident

Police say the incident happened three kilometers south of New Liskeard.
