Winter Storm Warning

Winter Storm Warning
New Liskeard – Temagami
Issued at 05:05 Wednesday 24 February 2016
Hazardous winter conditions are expected. A major winter storm is expected to affect Ontario this afternnoon through Thursday. A moisture laden low pressure area located over Kentucky this morning will bring a significant winter storm to the region as it tracks up just south of Lakes Erie and Ontario later today and tonight then to southeastern Quebec Thursday. Snow heavy at times will arrive from the south this afternoon in the North Bay area and this evening in remaining regions. Snow will continue tonight into Thursday before tapering off to a few flurries Thursday night in the wake of the storm. Total snowfall amounts of 25 to 35 cm are expected near North Bay, with 15 to 25 cm expected elsewhere. The western half of Manitoulin Island will miss the brunt of this storm and escape with only a few centimetres of snow. Travelling conditions are expected to quickly deteriorate after the snow arrives by this evening. Heavy snow and blowing snow causing very low visibility will result in dangerous winter travelling conditions. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays. Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to storm.ontario@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports to #ONStorm
