Warnings regarding rising water levels on Lake Temiskaming

DISTRICT — Water levels are rising on Lake Temiskaming, and the City of Temiskaming Shores has issued the following warning early Thursday afternoon, December 16:

As a result of significant rainfall received over the last three days, from 50 to 80 mm, in the northern portion of the Ottawa River, levels all along the Ottawa River and on Lake Temiskaming have increased significantly. Water levels are well above normal for this time of the year.

The water level (as of 8am this morning) on the north end of Lake Temiskaming was 179.29m and should continue to rise for the next few days to near the upper operating limit. The Timiskaming Quebec Dam is fully open, while the Ontario Dam is not currently accessible because of construction.

Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) would therefore like to alert residents along the lake, particularly those that have wharfs, docks and boats, of the significant increase in water levels.

Conditions on Lake Temiskaming are being monitored and further bulletins will be issued if required.
