New year, new need for blood donors

TEMISKAMING SHORES (Staff) – That Christmas spirit of giving can carry over into the new year.

The next blood donor clinic will be held January 15 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and January 16 from noon to 3 p.m. at Riverside Place in New Liskeard.

Appointments can be booked online at www.blood.ca or by calling Canadian Blood Services, at 1-888-2DONATE.

The clinic has a goal of 154 units.

It’s also hoping to find more donors with type O-negative blood because blood supplies are especially low.

“In an emergency – when there is no time to confirm a patient’s blood type – many patients rely on O-negative blood for survival,” the agency advised.

“It could take up to 50 donations to assist a single car accident victim.”

And if you have a group that wants to donate, Canadian Blood Services can help with transportation.

With advance notice, a school or organization can book the Give Life Shuttle to transport members at no cost to the clinic.
