Heat event advisory

Environment Canada has posted the first heat event of the season.

At 3:58 p.m. June 17 it posted:

“Warm and humid air is forecast to push into Northern Ontario this weekend.

“Most regions in Northeastern Ontario will experience daytime high temperatures in the low thirties on Saturday and Sunday, and night temperatures near 18 degrees.

“The temperatures are expected to cool off by Monday evening.

“These conditions pose a health risk when you are not used to the heat.

“Everyone is at risk from heat, especially older adults, infants and young children, and people with chronic illnesses.

“You are advised to 1) drink plenty of cool liquids before feeling thirsty, and 2) keep cool by dressing for the weather and spending a few hours each day in a cool place.

“Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

“Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.”
