Air quality concerns prompt surgery cancellations, visitor limits

TEMISKAMING SHORES – Air quality concerns have prompted Temiskaming Hospital to cancel surgeries and obstetrical services tomorrow (Friday, June 9) and to limit access to the hospital.

In a public service announcement issued this afternoon, the hospital said air quality around the facility is expected to “significantly deteriorate” tomorrow.

“As a result, the hospital has enacted its button down protocol to manage the air quality inside the hospital as much as possible.

“If you are experiencing an emergency, call 911. The Hospital remains open.”
The “button down” is expected to start at 9 p.m. today and continue until Saturday morning, June 10.

The hospital said access to the building will be only through the main doors and security personnel will be controlling entry and exit.

Surgeries and obstetrical services scheduled for Friday are cancelled. All volunteers and non-essential care partners are requested to not come to the hospital.

“This is a rapidly changing situation and is constantly monitored,” the hospital continued.

It said the public will be advised if the situation changes.
