54th Walkathon for Community Living on Saturday, May 2.
The May 2 event gets underway with a breakfast at Riverside Place in New Liskeard from 7-10 a.m.
Participants can choose a five- or ten-kilometre route that starts at Riverside Place and stays within Temiskaming Shores.
The one constant of the Walkathon is raising pledges for Community Living Temiskaming South for those with intellectual disabilities where the pledge is: “That all people live in a state of dignity share in all elements of living in the community and have the opportunity to participate effectively.”
Funds this year are designated for sensory equipment.
Community Living executive director Andrea Steis told The Speaker that “thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we hope to expand even further.”
She mentioned sensory equipment is important to Community Living clients as “it plays a vital role in stimulating the five senses while strengthening cognitive development, communication and social interaction. It is an essential resource that benefits children and adults alike, particularly individuals living with sensory and intellectual disabilities.”
Registration forms can be picked up at the Waterfront Pool and Fitness Centre, Findlay’s Drug Store, or at the Community Living Temiskaming South main office at 513 Amwell Street, Haileybury.
