Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for:

Conditions are favourable for the development of scattered thunderstorms this afternoon and early this evening. Some of these thunderstorms may become severe with wind gusts to 90 km/h. Small hail and frequent lightning are also possible.
Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

First heat event of the season continues today.

Extreme heat.
Discussion:
Daytime maximum temperatures near 30 degrees Celsius will return again this afternoon. Overnight lows are expected to bottom out in the upper teens or low twenties. The heat event may continue through Wednesday.
Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index to approach the high risk category.
The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.
Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.
Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
