HAILEYBURY – There will be something different this year at Haileybury’s Night of Lights.

Along with a tree-lighting ceremony at the Cenotaph Park, and a visit from Santa, Ontario Northland will be arriving with a Holiday Coach and will be distributing glow sticks to the children, says Haileybury Business Group spokesperson Hugo Rivet.

The Friday, November 15, event will begin at 6:45 p.m. and there will be hot chocolate for everyone, as well as music to bring in the Christmas season.

The tree-lighting ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. and Santa Claus will then arrive to meet with all the children and provide goodie bags. There will also be free S’Mores kits for children and a bonfire to create a warm sweet treat for a winter night.

There will be sleigh rides too, but this year they will be taking a different route with boarding at the corner of Amwell Street and Georgina Avenue. The rides will go northward on Georgina Avenue.

Following that event, there will be free public skating at the Shelley Herbert-Shea Memorial Arena from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

At the arena, children can also get their faces painted.

Participants to the Haileybury Night of Lights are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the local food bank. Everything else will be provided free of charge.
