In an update on the regional forest fire situation late last night (Tuesday), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry reports:
By the evening of August 7, there were 43 active forest fires across the northeast. Of these, 14 are not yet under control, 29 are either being held, under control or being observed.
- There were two new fires confirmed today, one of which has already been extinguished.
- Cochrane 38 is not yet under control at 0.2 of a hectare.
- FireRanger and Coastal Ranger crews are responding to 5 fires in the far north in proximity to the Fort Severn community. There are an additional 5 fires further from the community that are being observed to allow the ecological benefits of fire to occur.

- North Bay 72 is currently mapped at approximately 27,285 hectares and has not grown in size in the last 2 weeks. This fire is now listed as being held, which means that given current resource levels, this fire is not expected to spread under current and forecasted weather conditions.
- Crews have started removing values protection that had been put in place to protect structures.
- Existing travel restrictions continue to be assessed but remain in place at this time.
