TEMAGAMI — A 66 year-old Buffalo, New York man, traveling by kayak, is missing after he was reported four days over his estimated arrival date in the Temagami backcountry.
Peter Morgan left Whitefish Bay on Saturday, August 6 and was supposed to arrive back at the Temagami Access Road where his car is located on Thursday, August 11, but he hasn’t been seen or heard of since.
He is four days past the time he was to finish his trip, say the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Mr. Morgan was thought to be traveling Route Number 6, which is the Diamond-Wakamika-Obabika Lake Loop in the Northwest arm of the Temagami region.
But according to his son-in-law, Bruce Tharby, they believe he may have deviated from that plan and headed into the Lady Evelyn Lake region.
“If anyone has seen Peter along the way, maybe near a waterfall or other landmark, please let the OPP know,” said Mr. Tharby in a telephone interview with The Speaker.
Police say they have dispatched a marine unit and a helicopter to assist in the missing person investigation.
He is listed as 6 foot, one inch, between 200 and 220 pounds travelling in a red/orange kayak with a yellow gold tent.
He is described as an experienced kayaker and outdoorsman.
If anyone has information about Mr. Morgan’s whereabouts or has seen him contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or contact Bruce Tharby at 1-647-968-8108 cell or home 1-905-309-3059.
