One confirmed death

MISSING PERSON IN RED SQUIRREL LAKE
TEMAGAMI – On Wednesday, July 29 at approximately 2:50 p.m. members of the Temagami Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to Red Squirrel Lake due to a floating vessel that had been located without occupants.

Further investigation indicates that there were two passengers on the boat and for reasons unknown at this time, they did not return safely to shore. A 51-year-old female of Harris Township was located in the water and pronounced dead at the scene. One man is currently not accounted for.

The OPP Marine Unit, the OPP Aviation Services – Helicopter Section, Ornge Air Ambulance, the Bear Island Police, the OPP Snow machine, All Terrain Vehicle, and Vessels Enforcement Team (SAVE), the OPP North Bay Forensic Identification Services (FIS), and the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) are assisting with this ongoing investigation.
