A period of freezing rain likely tonight. Snow on the leading edge of a large precipitation shield associated with the winter storm will arrive this evening, then change over to ice pellets and freezing rain for a few hours before changing over to plain rain by morning as a warm front moves through. Untreated surfaces may quickly become icy and slippery as the freezing rain moves in. Travellers should adjust their plans accordingly.
An Alberta clipper and Texas low are tracking towards the Great Lakes where they will merge and rapidly intensify into a major winter storm by this evening. The storm centre is expected to reach Lake Superior on Friday morning, then move into Northern Ontario towards the Kapuskasing area by Friday evening. This winter storm will have significant impact across all of Northern Ontario over the next couple of days. Travellers are urged to check highway conditions and for possible highway closures.
