NORTH BAY – A flood watch is in effect in the Lake Temagami area until Thursday.
Heavy rainfall almost two weeks ago followed by bouts of lighter rain have combined with dormant vegetation and saturated soils to increase seasonal water levels significantly.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is warning that structures such as homes, boat houses and docks in some areas could be at risk of flooding. Shorelines and banks could also be very slippery and unstable and, considering the risk of cold, fast-flowing water, could pose serious safety hazards.
It’s advising residents to monitor conditions, to exercise caution around shorelines and low-lying areas, and to keep a close eye on children who could be at risk.
