Boil-water advisory

Boil-water advisory effective Tuesday September 29

TEMISKAMING SHORES (Staff) — The City of Temiskaming Shores is advising New Liskeard residents to prepare for a period of two days, or possibly more, during which a boil-water advisory will be in effect.

The boil-water advisory will take effect today Tuesday, September 29.

“This advisory is due to scheduled upgrades to the distribution system and underground reservoir in New Liskeard,” the city stated in a release. “This precautionary boil-water advisory will remain in effect until further notice.”

A city representative explained that the boil-water advisory will be lifted as soon as two consecutive water tests reveal the water is back to normal and is safe for human consumption.

Effective September 29, and until further notice, New Liskeard residents are advised to boil water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before use.

The city also suggests bottled water can be used instead of tap water during that time for the purpose of: drinking; gargling, brushing teeth or rinsing dentures; washing fruits, vegetables or other food; making ice, juices, puddings, or other mixes.

For the purpose of making baby food or formula, the city recommends only using bottled water or an alternate potable supply.

The city states in its release that bathing and washing with the water is safe for adults, teens and older children. Small children can be given sponge-baths instead of tub baths or showers, the city recommends. The city urges people to be cautious not to swallow any unboiled water during showers or baths.
