Warnings

1:36 PM EDT Wednesday 01 April 2015
Freezing rain warning in effect for:

* Kirkland Lake – Englehart
* New Liskeard – Temagami

Freezing rain is expected or occurring.

An approaching warm front will cause a narrow band of freezing rain to develop and move eastward across Northern Ontario tonight. Freezing rain is expected to begin near Chapleau and Hearst late this evening, then spread across the remaining regions overnight.

The freezing rain will be preceded by a few centimetres of snow in most places. Freezing rain will last 2 to 3 hours as it moves through. Ice accumulations of 1 to 3 millimetres can be expected with up to 5 millimetres near the Quebec border.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.

Freezing Rain Warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Environment Canada meteorologists will update alerts as required, so stay tuned to your local media or Weatheradio. Email reports of severe weather to storm.ontario@ec.gc.ca or tweet with the hashtag #ONStorm.
