Winter storm warning in effect for:
- New Liskeard – Temagami
Hazardous winter conditions are expected.
March comes in like a white lion, as a winter storm affects the region.
A strong Colorado low will move across Southern Ontario today. Strong northerly winds have set in with much colder Arctic air creating a wintery mix of precipitation. Most of the precipitation has changed to snow although some freezing rain lingers from Manitoulin Island to North Bay until later this morning.
Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 centimetres are expected by Thursday morning, with locally higher amounts to 30 cm possible in one or two locales.
The strong northerly winds will whip up the freshly fallen snow resulting in frequent blowing snow in exposed areas.
Hazardous winter driving conditions are expected, and travel is not recommended. Travel plans should be adjusted appropriately.
The snow and blowing snow are expected to end by Thursday morning as the low pressure area moves into Quebec.
Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.
