TEMISKAMING SHORES (Staff) — A 38-year-old New Liskeard man received non life-threatening injuries when the westbound pickup he was driving collided with a northbound train on Golf Course Road in Dymond Township Thursday morning, September 3.
The Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that the man was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injuries. Police stated there were no other occupants in the vehicle.
The freight train remained on the track, and no freight cars were damaged in the collision.
Police were notified of the collision at 8:22 a.m.
Police responded to the scene, along with the Temiskaming ambulance service and the Dymond fire department.
As of 11:30 a.m., September 3, Golf Course Road remained closed.
Police asked that people do not call the OPP Provincial Communications Centres for road advisory updates or road condition information.
Police stated that the investigation is ongoing and further information will be released as it becomes available.
The Temiskaming OPP added that they “would like to remind motorists that they shall be cautious and familiar with the laws regarding approaching a railway. Speeding, disobeying traffic controls (lights and/or signs), and failing to yield right-of-way accounts for many preventable collisions. Please drive defensively and safe.”
