Environment Canada has upgraded its winter storm warning for the area including Kirkland Lake, Englehart, Temiskaming Shores, Temagami and surrounding communities.
Hazardous winter conditions are expected, Environment Canada warns.
Snowfall amounts of 20 to 30 cm and blowing snow are expected today and into Wednesday, February 13.
Snow at times heavy will begin early this afternoon, Tuesday, February 12. There will be a temporary lull in snowfall this evening, Environment Canada states, but the snow will reintensify overnight and persist into Wednesday.
Strong easterly winds gusting up to 70 km/h may cause near zero visibility in blowing snow, Environment Canada also states.
Impacts to travel are expected. Localized power outages may occur, Environment Canada also warns.
This snow is associated with a Colorado Low that will cross lake Huron tonight.
Environment Canada suggests considering postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance.
