Issued January 9:
Hazardous winter conditions are expected. Impactful winter storm this afternoon into Wednesday. Hazards: 15 to 30 cm of snow. Poor visibility in areas of heavy snow and blowing snow. Hazardous travel conditions. Timing: This afternoon through Wednesday. Discussion: Heavy snowfall and blowing snow associated with a major winter storm are expected to begin affecting Northeastern Ontario today, with the worst conditions expected tonight into Wednesday morning. Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 30 cm are possible. Northeast winds gusting up to 60 km/h will result in areas of blowing snow giving poor visibility at times. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
