Kitchen steamer results in fire call

TEMISKAMING SHORES (Staff) – New Liskeard firefighters responded to a call to Northdale Manor earlier today, Wednesday August 26.

Lunch preparations were underway when a vegetable steamer in the retirement residence’s kitchen malfunctioned, said Temiskaming Shores fire prevention officer Steve Langford August 26.

But a Manor worker had already put out the fire using an extinguisher, he said.

“I have to commend staff,” Mr. Langford said.

“I’ve participated in training with them. They did what they had to do.”

He said the only damage was to the steamer itself.
