TEMISKAMING SHORES - The Temiskaming Shores and Area Chamber of Commerce is in the business of making an impression.
Formerly known as the Tri-Town and District chamber, the organization -- which turns 20 this year -- officially underwent a name change last year.
It has also adopted a new look.
Its new logo incorporates its name in the brown and gold colours that are consistent with those utilized by the City of Temiskaming Shores.
But its symbols also reflect the area’s economic diversity and the breadth of commerce reflected in its 340-plus members who stretch from Latchford to Earlton.
A silhouetted skyline incorporates images of trees, a silo, a smokestack, sprawling buildings and residential development.
They represent forestry, farming, industrial and commercial development, as well as the area’s rural and urban communities, explained chamber president Matt Duke at the association’s annual gathering.
Built into the logo as well are C-shaped swirls representing waves, furrows and, of course, “chamber” of “commerce.”
The new brand is based on the work of city designers Dean Dubois and Stephen Cameron.
The chamber will be activating a new Web domain name reflecting its new identity, said chamber business manager Lois Weston.
The organization is also increasing the on-line presence of its members under a new initiative.
Using Google mapping technology, Mr. Duke said each chamber member will be pinpointed on a map of the area.
Visitors can drop by the chamber office and peruse chamber members on-line by sector, such as accommodations or retail establishment.
They can then choose a specific enterprise and, by clicking on a photo of the business, be directed to its Web site. They can then leave with printed material about that member.
He urged members to update their Web sites “so we can help you expose your business in a better format.”
The next phase of the project will be linking the system to the chamber’s Web site, thereby increasing members’ exposure further, he said.
