Feeding the need with Community Food Bank drive

DISTRICT (Staff) – Have you got your bag of food ready, or your cheque made out or decided on volunteer time to be donated to this coming weekend’s Temiskaming Speaker Community Food Bank Drive?

The spring food drive for the communities of Temagami, Latchford, Coleman Township, Cobalt, Haileybury, New Liskeard, Earlton and Englehart takes place Saturday, March 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The spring food drive is held to acquire non-perishable food items such as canned meats, vegetables, stews, peanut butter, soups, baby items, personal care items, cash donations or volunteer time for the five local food banks in this region.

The food banks are the Temagami Lions Club Food Bank in Temagami, now operating from the municipal office or the public library; the Cobalt/Coleman and Latchford Area Food Bank on Earle Street in Cobalt; the Haileybury Food Bank on Broadway Street; the New Liskeard Salvation Army Food Bank at the Salvation Army Church on Whitewood Avenue and the Englehart Food Bank at 65 Sixth street or at the Royal Canadian Legion.

Volunteers will be going door-to-door in some communities.

In Coleman Township donations can be dropped off at the fire department from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or the municipal office weekdays.

In Latchford donations may be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the fire department office.

In Earlton, contributions may be given to the Earlton Grocery King outlet.

Items can also be dropped off at The Temiskaming Speaker office beginning Wednesday, March 21, to Thursday, March 29, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
